Microbiomes in our gastrointestinal tract are responsible not just for our digestion, but also, our moods. (Collen, Alanna).
The types of microbes in our guts are populated based on what we eat, and that in turn determines how we feel. People who are depressed tend to have similar microbiome compositions with other depressed people, and their compositions differ from people who are happy.
As a Valentine’s Gift to you, aspiring Microbe Whisperers, I offer a meditation, to mindfully cultivate the microbes of bliss, in your gut microbiome.
Meditation can create a shift of consciousness that will lead you to make better food choices, and better experience choices, leading to an increase in your gut microflora, of microbes that generate bliss.
There are already microbes in your gut responsible for bliss, but if you are not feeling great, or you have consumed a bit too much of the food that feeds the “sadness-inducing” microbes, then those bliss microbes are not highly represented.
Let’s get those bliss bugs to replicate quickly and overtake your sad ones, so you can reach a more bliss-filled state of being!
First – Naming the microbes is important, as you know from learning about the microbes in the Microbe Whisperer guidebook and this site. Just identifying a few main representatives of this collective will go a long way to open the channels of communication with these marvelous microbes that inhabit your gut and bring you bliss.
Here is a POWERPOINT meditation. Play it as slide show for best effect.
Microbes of Bliss Meditation
Sit in a quiet place, such as in front of your home altar or a kitchen table. Have placed before you, bowls of the fiber rich foods that we know create healthy gut microbes. These foods include Raspberries; Artichokes; Green peas; Broccoli; Chickpeas; Lentils; Beans (kidney, pinto and white); Whole grains (more good gut microbe foods here).
Place your hand over your stomach, and imagine your intestinal tract and the microbes that reside within, and say:
- “Blissful state is my goal, I speak to you, microbe guides within my gut.
- Blissful state – for my body, mind and heart.
- Thank you for helping me create this state of bliss, by guiding my choices on what to eat, so that you have the fuel you need to keep my body, illness free.
- Bifidobacteria, lactobacilli and bacteroidetes, keep making those wonderful SCFAs, like acetate, butyrate and propionate, to keep me cancer free, diabetes free, and strengthen my immunity.
- With your metabolic natures, you protect me, and bring vitality!
- You remove my woes and strife
- Making strong, my tree of life.
Blissful blessings to you, aspiring Microbe Whisperers. And Happy Valentine’s Day!
